Pogona & Flamboyan

Apologies for the lack of blog posts, but that just means I was knitting too much to type! I think I'm channeling all the nervous excitement about my move to Amsterdam into knitting, knitting, and more knitting. This Fall and Winter will be full of new Westknits designs. Until Fall arrives, you can catch some updates/teasers for Westknits Book One on my ravelry group here.

Earlier this month I released 1 of the 8 patterns in Westknits Book One, Pogona, on Ravelry. It's a new shawl that has an arched shape, which is excellent for draping across your shoulders.

The fabric gathers beautifully when worn like a scarf, my preferred style.

The other 7 patterns will all come out at the same time in a couple months. You can wait until September/October to get Pogona in the booklet or if you can't wait, here is a link to purchase the individual pdf file.

A couple days ago, I released another shawl pattern, Flamboyan.

I had the pleasure of knitting with The Sanguine Gryphon Skinny Bugga!, a gorgeous merino/cashmere/nylon blend. The Sanguine Gryphon's colorways are out of this world and you will definitely be seeing some more designs featuring their yarns in the future!

I used Oak Timberworm (dark brown) with The Herald (rusty orange-brown). Oak Timberworm is one of my favorite colorways ever and if you haven't experienced The Sanguine Gryphon yet, you are missing out! I literally could not put my knitting down, which resulted in a 2-day shawl. Over 800 yds in 2 days. I was shocked. It was all a blur, but I was in heaven the whole time and now I get to wear my Flamboyan in the cool air conditioning.

$6.00

If you haven't found me on twitter yet, I am there as westknits. I've been a good regular tweeter, but there will be more blog posts this year as well!

love both shawls! thus far i haven't worked up the courage to knit a shawl, because they always seem to use such fine-weight yarns.

i love that so many of your shawls don't - perfect for me and my worsted-weight only ways!

can't wait for the book to become available!

Hey!!! I left you this message on twitter before I realized that you don't follow me there (bellepoint) and my tweets are private, so you weren't seeing them!

I love the new patterns, and I especially love the stuff I got to see photographed on SATURDAY here in Uruguay on an utterly gorgeous model. The photographer for Book 3 is incredible!

Also, wanted to see when you are moving because I will probably be in Urbana in August, since an LYS there has asked me to come and speak about Malabrigo and teach a class!

Oh my, those are both awesome! I'm slowly plugging away at your Daybreak Shawl in between Etsy shop crocheting. I can't wait to finish and wear it-I'm mesmerized by the stripes. I also can't wait to snag your book once it comes out...and maybe, you know, some new yarn to go with it. Naturally. :)

The same thing happened to me when I knit my Flamboyan. It was the very first experience I have had with The Sanguine Gryphon Skinny Bugga, and I could not put it down. I think the shawl took me 3 days and it looks simply fabulous. I won't be using anything but their yarns from now on, as much as possible. Their colors are to die for. I too, love Timber Oakworm. Thank you for your pattern and for turning me on to The Sanguine Grypon.

Thank you for your beautiful work. I just bought this morning the Pogona because I couldn't wait for book ( I am on the list at local knitting store to buy it too). However, I do not understand at all how to do the YO's from knit to purl stitch. I understand keeping yarn in back and when you slide right hand needle into next stitch purlwise how to make the purl stitch if you are not supposed to wrap the yarn around needle. I'm so confused and stuck and I want to be making it! Thank you,

Thank you for your beautiful work. I'm purchased the Pogona recipe this morning and am stuck on the YO bit. I don't understand it at all. I understand that once I finish the knit stitch I am to leave the yarn in the back, scoop up the next stitch with right needle purlwise but don't know how to make the stitch if I am not supposed to wrap the yarn...that would be a slip stitch and doesn't make a yo. Please help as I'm itching to get this going. I've made 2 boneyards for my vets this summer. Can't wait for book, I have it on order at My Sister Knits in Fort Collins, CO.
